Lyrids above Charmouth Beach Huts

Charmouth doesn’t have many beach huts, but as they say, quality over quantity! Having first travelled to Kimmeridge on this late April night, and cloud ruining the party, I rushed back to West Dorset where the forecast was clear at 3am. I got there just as the cloud cleared the core of the Milky Way, which was fast rising in the south east. I shot 2-minute exposures until astronomical twilight at 3:40am, then turned my tracker off to capture the foreground. During that time, I captured four meteors streaking across the sky.

Technical details: sky exposures compiled of 16x 2-minute exposures on a iOptron SkyTracker Pro, Nikon D800, Samyang 14/2.8, f/4, ISO 800. Foreground was an 8-minute exposure at ISO 400.

A4 and limited edition mounted prints are printed on high quality Fuji photo paper. Larger prints are available, printed on durable, scratch-proof and weather-proof vinyl, mounted on a 3mm thick aluminium composite board, creating a light, strong and unfussy product.
